Why Revive the Colleens?

There are many reasons why we believe the Colleen could be a perfect candidate for a revival in Dublin Bay and elsewhere in the 21st Century.

Firstly, the Colleen is a 100% local "King's Leary" design. It has an illustrious history, which brings a touch of class to the boat.

The Colleen offers a unique selling point; it fits in well with modern sailing life. It has an inboard/outboard configuration, which makes it marina friendly. There will be no lifting or squatting on a slippy aft deck to fit an outboard on the transom of a Colleen! This configuration makes it easy and safe to day sail in comfort and with ease of mind.

The Colleen has low windage and its 18" (0.45m) draft makes it easily trailerable. This makes it easy to enjoy the pleasures of the Colleen in distant parts.

The Colleen is a great boat to sail; sensitive and a performance racing craft, it is undemanding of the crew in agility or expertise. It can be sailed comfortably with 2, 3 or 4 crew and its stability is especially suitable for children and older people.
